Pierre Martin “Pierre” Reyes
BS Economics, 4th Year
School of Economics
I am Pierre Martin Reyes and I will be serving you as your Economics Representative for the 2008- 2009 academic year. To tell you a bit about myself, I am a senior Economics major. I grew up and studied in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I am a features writer in SIDHI, the official student publication of the School of Economics. I have served in the UP School of Economics Student Council (SESC) as a member of the Juniors’ Batch Committee. I am also a member of Gawad Kalinga (GK) and had the opportunity to work directly for Mr. Tony Meloto as head of the GK Study Group which conducts research studies on GK communities.
One of the core beliefs of the UP School of Economics is the principle of making the study of economics relevant to the needs of the Filipino people. With this in mind, the call for the Economics Representative is to affirm that commitment. Moreover, I will bring to the USC the high standard of professionalism and work ethic typical of the students of the School of Economics.
As the Economics Representative, I will ensure that your voices will be heard in the University Student Council (USC) and will take action against any deprivation of that right. There exists a plurality of beliefs, ideas, principles and interests in our University. One of my core principles is that each should respect the inclination of others, regardless of personal beliefs. As a member of the USC, I will strongly respond to any intolerance towards the perspective, beliefs and principles of others. My sincerest thanks go out to the students of the School of Economics for giving their trust in me last March. It is an honor to represent you in the USC and I look forward to serving you all throughout the year.
